We walked in the footsteps of Elizabeth Bennett and Mr Darcy, or at least Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen, at our day out at Basidon Park near Pangbourne in Berkshire. Not only is the house beautiful (it was Netherfield in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice), but the grounds are stunning and offer excellent countryside and woodland walks. It had been our aim to visit at least one National Trust site together in our Summer Programme and this did not disappoint, with lunch in the cafe and a visit to the well-stocked shop afterwards.
