We dived into a pool on the subject of Green: (17th July 2025)

Green means growth; regeneration; harmony, joy and peaceful ness. Being at one with nature. This image of Greenland evokes a feeling of peace.

Our meeting started off with facts about Greenland from a member who had just been there on holiday. Greenland is known for rare gems and minerals. It is the largest island in the world that is not a continent with the lowest population density of 50,000.

It has the largest national park and 80% of Greenland is covered in ice which is 3500m thick. A phenomenon known as ‘caving’ means ice slicing off an iceberg and the force of this can trigger a tsunami.

The Arctic Circle Trail in Greenland finishes in Sisimiut, a coastal town. The trail connects Sisimiut to the inland settlement of Kangerlussuaq and is approximately 165 km (103 miles) long.  In the past people were conned into thinking Greenland was actually green by Erik the Red … the ‘naughty’ Viking. This led to its name and also to settlers thinking to go there. Nuuk is the most northerly capitol.

There are International U. S bases in Greenland and an International airport. There are no roads linking towns or cities in Greenland, with most inter-settlement travel being done by boat, plane, helicopter, or dog sledding in winter. The harsh, mountainous terrain, much of which is covered by ice, makes constructing roads between settlements extremely difficult and expensive.  There are supermarkets (where rifles are sold) shopping malls and modern settlements where houses are painted in bright colours. Reindeer burgers are popular.

If you would like to make a trip there in the Summer months you might need an eye mask!

  • Midnight Sun: The sun shines for nearly 24 hours a day, especially above the Arctic Circle.
  • Thawing & Bloom: Coasts become snow-free, and wildflowers bloom on the tundra.
  • Activities: Perfect for hiking, kayaking, boat trips, and observing wildlife like whales and birds.

We then shared comments on feelings about Green. It was particularly disliked as a uniform colour. It is regarded as being very calming. One member had the experience of a green aura in meditation. There are many sayings connected to Green such as:

Green around the gills:This phrase is used to describe someone who looks ill or nauseous

Green with envy:This phrase describes a feeling of intense jealousy or wanting what someone else has.

Green thumb:Used for someone who has a natural talent for gardening and making plants grow well.

Go green:Refers to adopting a lifestyle that is more environmentally conscious and sustainable.

Give the green light:This idiom means to give approval or permission for a project or activity to begin.

The grass is always greener on the other side:Suggests that people often perceive other people’s situations as being better than their own, even when it’s not true.

We also discussed songs with Green in the title and played some music then watched a little video of Kermit the Frog lamenting being green! He wishes he could be bright red or a flashy yellow.
