Last week we visited the Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in the grounds of Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. We visited over 2 days to cater for the availability of those interested. The groups enjoyed a private tour followed by a fantastic lunch from the Bargacree Cafe. We had booked the Celebration Room so enjoyed our lunch in private with a personal waitress (all at no cost!).
We learned of the many other services this purpose built hospice provides as well as the end of life in-patient palliative care. This included the services for Young Adults transitioning from Child to Adult care. This is expanding as developments in care mean that children are living longer with conditions that were once limited to childhood. This means the population of young people with life-limiting conditions is growing and need to be accommodated.
The gardens have been enhanced this year with the relocated and replanted (Gold medal award winning Best in Show) Muscular Dystrophy UK Garden from The RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2024. The garden’s Designer Ula Maria donated all the trees and plants from her award winning garden (the MD Forest Bathing Garden) and oversaw the transportation (over 400 miles facilitated by The Malcolm Group) and replanting in Glasgow. This was financially supported by funding from Project Giving Back a charity that supports gardens for good causes. There will be a formal opening ceremony next year when the plants and trees are in full bloom again.
