No amount of expectation that the forecasted “75% chance of light rain”, especially after two days of solid sunshine, simply wouldn’t happen compensated for the rainy morning we had in store today. At least, it did begin very light…
Already December and not ideal walking conditions, I listened to Jo’s advice and plumped for a home-made walking tour of Stamford; reputedly proclaimed by non-other than Sir Walter Scott as “the finest stone town in England”.
My trail took in St Martin’s Church, Daniel Lambert’s Grave, Albert Bridge, St George’s Church, Street and Square before we stopped at the Arts Centre for warmth, rest and comfort. Heading home we stopped at St Mary’s and Bath Row.
My notes are fiendishly ‘light’ on detail to lure you into joining this same walk in 2026 under bluer skies and warmer breezes. It will form part of a series of tours to the town taking in different focal points of interest. Let’s celebrate our local Georgian gem while we can.
Footnote: thanks to Jo and Bev for your friendship today – despite the rain.

Welcoming walkers old and new in the New Year 2026.
Seasons Greetings and Good Health.
