Twelve of us gathered together, plus one on Zoom, to hear a taste of the Cheshire Poets Laureate.
Cheshire County Council had a scheme to appoint an annual Cheshire Poet Laureate, which ran from 2003 to 2009.
It came to an end when Cheshire was split into two and funds were no longer available.
There were six poets in all, the last one staying in post for 2 years.
The poetry included commissions for the council. Each published collections of poems and our host had many of them to share with us.
Harry Owen was the inaugural appointment in 2003 and his commissions included for the Cheshire Show and RHS Show at Tatton.
We heard a love story with a happy ending when he moved to South Africa after re-discovering his forbidden first love.
Others were Joy Winkler, John Lindley, Andrew Rudd, Jo Bell and Terry Fox.
John Lindley and Terry Fox were familiar to several of us.
Our host read us a selection from each Laureate and she did read them beautifully.
There were tales of collaborations between them and shows featuring five, then four of them.
We followed up with fruit punch and festive treats.
Finally the organiser handed out gift-wrapped books for each of us to enjoy and pass around. So kind of her.
