Christmas in the Stonor Valley

A great turnout from Sonning Common members as we celebrate Christmas 2025 in beautiful surroundings

Chris opened up her beautifully converted mill cottage in the Stonor Valley on Thursday for one of our best attended Christmas get-togethers to date (17 of our 20 members were able to come together). We thought it would be hard to top last year’s Candlelit Christmas during a local power cut, but Chris excelled herself for us and provided a beautifully decorated background for our annual feast. We all provide the food of course and this year’s festive selection was no exception, with marinated chicken, gammon and sausages, quiche, potato and salad dishes and an excellent wine/no wine selection and delicious desserts and cheeses. We always marvel at how we manage to provide a varied menu selection of food and drink with no advance consultations- we have got it down to a fine art!

Part of our entertainment for the evening was a selection of quizzes including a version of House of Games AnswerSmash and a fiendish crossword compiled by Lyn which referred to events from our past year’s programme. But we all managed to recall fondly many of the topics of our meetings and details of our outings.

It was a wonderful way of remembering and celebrating 2025, when we saw our numbers swell and our NWR membership increase. A warm welcome to all our new members and we look forward to a happy new year.

Wishing all our friends at NWR a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
