A small group of us enjoyed the warm evening sun in the beautiful Kings College Fellows’ Garden with some light refreshments for our picnic and then settled down to see an outdoor performance of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.
“I see a woman may be made a fool, if she had not a spirit to resist . . .”
We were thoroughly entertained by the antics of the cast to put across this Shakespearean comedy against the backdrop of the wonderful gardens. But equally it gave us pause for thought, as a contemporary audience, to consider the plot and wonder what Shakespeare’s true intentions were in writing it. Possibly a topic for debate at a further NWR meeting?!
