Painshill Park

Our visit this month will be to Painshill Park, a stunning landscape garden created between 1738 and 1773 by Charles Hamilton. In common with most young men of his social standing Hamilton had completed a Grand Tour of Europe returning with statues and paintings. He also wanted to create a garden in the new more natural style – now known as the English Landscape Garden – he acquired some land near Cobham and Painshill was the result. More information about the garden can be found here: https://www.painshill.co.uk/about-painshill/the-creation-of-painshill/

Diana will be organising this visit – look out for an email from her. If you have a National Art Pass, Historic Houses membership or Gardeners’ World 2for1Gardens entry card please let her know.
