We had this as a topic for one of our recent meetings. The BBC annually recognise women from across the globe who have made a real difference within their own communities and beyond (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-55042935). Many of these are women whose achievements we wouldn’t otherwise have heard about. We focussed on 8 individuals, 2 from each of the categories Knowledge, Leadership, Creativity and Identity. This proved to be really varied selection of very courageous, innovative and interesting women who have influenced and led change in areas as wide-ranging as dementia, aiming to eradicate FGM across Somaliland, disability rights and developing technological solutions to tackle loneliness. Hearing about these women sparked lively and interesting discussion and gave us a lot to think about.
