Celebrating 100 years of ‘The Great Gatsby’

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the publication of F. Scott Fitgerald’s Jazz Age novel, our group decided to ‘do’ the 1920’s! On 15th May, with the help of some costumes from our local drama group, and our own ‘creative’ efforts, we donned our best flapper outfits for a Gatsby themed evening. Set in 1920s Long Island, New York, Fitzgerald’s novel depicts the rise and fall of wealthy entrepreneur Jay Gatsby, and the author’s own disillusionment with the American dream.

Although our own party could not hope to be as lavish as those of Jay Gatsby, we nevertheless thoroughly enjoyed taking the time to reflect on the impact the 1925 novel (and the later movies) had had on us. We also loved the opportunity to highlight and recreate our favourite scenes and characters!
