Last weekend, 2-4 September, four of our group travelled by train to attend the NWR 2022 Conference held at Northumbria University, Newcastle. The theme: Insatiable Consumption.
We all had a great time, starting with the quiz on Friday night, followed on Saturday & Sunday by talks on ‘Nature & Climate Change’, ‘Mindful Paddleboard Litter-picking’, ‘Alternative Fuel & Electric Cars’, and ‘Dressmakers of Auschwitz’…. plus workshops on a wide range of topics such as Invasive Flatworms, Shelterboxes, Managing Anxiety, making wonderful Art from Waste Materials, singing uplifting songs from Bagpuss (!) – and so much more.
All the events, and the very successful Gala Dinner on Saturday night, gave plenty of opportunities to meet and chat to members of other groups from around the country. Staying in student accommodation for a couple of nights brought back a few memories of living in similar (though admittedly not so well appointed!) flats “quite a while ago….”. Ahem.
It was a great success. THANK YOU to the organising committee and all those who helped the weekend go with a swing.
We would thoroughly recommended going to an NWR Conference. And if – as we were told – next year’s event is held in Nottingham, I do believe we might persuade a few more of our group to attend!
