LGBTQ+ people have been part of Glasgow’s history for as long as the city has existed. This year on 28 June members from Kilbarchan followed a Heritage Trail walk from Glasgow City Centre to Glasgow Green (Glasgow’s oldest park). It was a self-guided walk provided by Glasgow Women’s Library (see route in link below). To make it more fun (complicated!) we decided to complete the route in reverse order.
After the walk we met with other members for a picnic lunch (sadly indoors as the rain came on) and our discussion about some of the highlights of the walk led to interesting conversations including the fact that according to a recent census Scotland at 4% has the highest % of LGBTQ+ people of the UK. This compared with 3.2% in England & Wales and 2.1% in NI.
