The Colour Yellow

Meeting Date : Tuesday 15th April 2025

The subject of meeting 4 was to talk about anything YELLOW and we asked that everyone try and have something interesting to tell us that involved the colour yellow. In typical NWR style every member came with a different subject. We are still getting to know one another and the NWR discussion format. We are excited at our continued success and commitment of all the new members. The current topics are those suggested by the organisers. Members are invited to join in the sub groups running by the NWR Deepings established group : monthly zoom Art Appreciation; monthly walk on the 1st Wednesday of the month and quarterly zoom Book Group. Members are encouraged to join in the free talks and fitness zoom events bookable through the NWR website : nwr.org.uk

We kicked off with the psychology of colour and all that yellow represents. Spring, happiness, freshness, joy and optimism.

That was counter balanced by negative representations of yellow in cowardice, illness (jaundice and pus!!),caution signs and warnings.

We learned how many bricks made up the yellow brick road to the Emerald City and that urine was used to make the colour yellow in stained glass windows.

Yellow Bellies

We had the origins of the expression Lincolnshire yella bellies, though surprisingly only one person in the group was actually born in Lincolnshire!  I recall from the first meeting of the Group that many prospective members proclaimed what a welcoming, safe good place Bourne is to live. The town like may areas is growing attracting many incomers as a nice place to settle.

Songs

Lots of songs with yellow in the title and the meaning behind the Tie a Yellow Ribbon song. We had yellow wedding outfits and the memories that were invoked and yellow T shirts worn.

Memories

The topic inspired one member to reminisce through her grandmother’s autograph book which was very old and had yellow aged pages invoking some wonderful memories.

Great contributions all round.
