The Yorkshire delights I got to see with my photo competition prize money

I was so thrilled when Jeanette House, the Trustee responsible for organising the Photo Competition, rang me to say I had won! The prize of two nights in Yorkshire was another opportunity to add to my photo collection.

In late April my husband and I travelled up to The Steeton Hall Hotel in Keighley stopping at the fabulous Yorkshire Sculpture Park for lunch on the way – lots of lambs and Henry Moore sculptures and far too much to see in a quick visit.

We had a very luxurious room overlooking the garden and one of the best ever cooked breakfasts.

Determined to make the most of it, we drove across the Moors to Haworth and Hebden Bridge where I met Kate Lycett, the Artist who chose my photo, as she was doing a workshop. She signed my magazine and I got to see her gorgeous paintings.

Then the next day we visited the Dales to see Bolton Abbey and had lunch in The Craven Arms in the wonderfully named Appletreewick overlooking the picturesque countryside. From there we travelled to Salts Mill in Saltaire with its old mill buildings abundant with art, shops and a good cafe and best of all was a free David Hockney exhibition.

As we finished our last breakfast, Jeanette and her husband popped in with a lovely basket of Yorkshire goodies for me to take home, so I felt thoroughly rewarded and returned with a camera full of photos of a beautiful area which we will certainly revisit!
