We celebrated the 200th anniversary of the RNLI in true style with an excellent day at the RNLI training centre in Poole, Dorset. The water in Poole Harbour was shimmering and our tour guide gave us an utterly stimulating tour of the £24 million site where volunteers from all over the UK come for initial and refresher training. Highlights of the visit were being able to captain the simulator and trying to avoid the oil tanker and the submarine! We also watched on as a crew were put through their paces in the pool as their boat was capsized and recovered in very choppy conditions. A great day out and we would highly recommend the tour, the restaurant and the gift shop too!
