This pack contains information about the Pride Picnic for NWR members wishing to take part.

What is the NWR Pride Picnic?
In celebration of Pride month which takes place in June, we are asking NWR members to come together in their groups and share a Pride Picnic (or afternoon tea) to celebrate and show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Why?
As a national organisation, it is important that we are proactive in promoting acceptance and equality. We want to celebrate how far LGBTQ+ rights have come and show our allyship and support for the community.

The only rule
There must be at least 2 NWR members attending your Pride Picnic.

The Pride Picnic

Why are members being asked to hold a Pride Picnic?

Uniting for this event aims to show our support and solidarity to the LGBTQ+ community. It’s an opportunity to get together and have a fun, relaxed day with fellow members and any non-members that you wish to invite.

When should the picnic take place?

Pride month takes place throughout the month of June. There is no set date for this event; it can take place on any date in June to suit your group.

Who can join our picnic?

Everyone is welcome! Family and friends of all genders may join your picnic.

Where should we hold our picnic?

The location for your picnic is entirely up to you. When choosing a location, try to be mindful of any access issues for any members or guests with accessibility issues.

Picnic Food

What sort of food should we prepare?

All things bright and colourful! The Rainbow flag is used to represent the LGBTQ+ community and during Pride month, you’ll notice rainbows and rainbow flags appearing in shops, supermarkets, coffee shops and other public places. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to create a rainbow picnic or perhaps you could encourage fellow members and your guests to dress in rainbow colours; the choice is yours!

There are some wonderful ideas on Pinterest if you’d like some inspiration.

Pride Picnic Ideas

Who should purchase the food?

We would encourage asking all members and guests to bring along a contribution to your picnic spread. If one member of a group offers to hold the picnic at their home, this does not mean that the host is responsible for purchasing all of the picnic food. It may be easier if each member/guest brings along their own packed lunch. Discuss this with your group and decide what would work best for you.

Allergies and dietary requirements – IMPORTANT!

Before the event, please be sure to ask all those attending if they have any food allergies or dietary requirements and adjust your picnic accordingly. Please make sure ingredients for all foods are available to view on the day.
