The immortal life of Henrietta Lacks

Hilary Mantel described this as ‘A fascinating, harrowing, necessary book’. This is the true story of how in 1951 cancerous cells were taken from the body of Henrietta Lacks without her knowledge – a common practice in the United States at that time. The HeLa immortalized cell line which was developed from her cells is one of the most commonly used in scientific research.

Meet at Ali’s for an 8pm start – please remember to let her know if you will be going.
