NWR is the best organisation for women that nobody seems to have heard of! Our meetings are the perfect opportunity to make more local friends.

Our group started in Wokingham over the summer of 2024. Our meetings always include a discussion topic, mostly light-hearted but with the occasional more serious one. We frequently find we go “off-topic” and end up discussing all sorts of things.

We welcome new members and would love to meet you, so please get in touch using the contact button above for more information and to arrange a free trial session.

Our meetings take place on Wednesday evenings (6.30/7.00) and Friday afternoons (2.30) in local pubs and cafes. and our forthcoming meetings are::

Wed 14 May evening – Do you feel strongly enough about any issue to resort to formal protest? How effective do you think such actions are in changing others’ mindsets?
Fri 23 May afternoon – Dream Jobs.  What would be your dream job? When you were a child did you dream about what you would like to be “when you grew up”?  Does that ambition still linger?
Wed 4 Jun evening – Do you share your name (forename or surname) with someone famous?  Come and tell us what you have found out.
Fri 13 Jun afternoon – Environmental Awareness – are we doing enough?
Wed 25 Jun evening – How has our relationship with food changed from that of our parents and grandparents?
Fri 4 Jul afternoon – Collecting or hoarding?  Is there anything you collect?  Are you a hoarder?  Have you any tips for decluttering?

Our meetings have been very enjoyable and prompted a lot of discussion. For example, at one, we each chose three dinner guests (from history or today). Our choices included Michelle Obama, Aristotle, Jess Phillips MP, Sir David Attenborough, Tom Hanks, Victoria Wood and many others.
At another we asked “What talent or skill do you wish you possessed?” Our desired skills included art and craft work of various kinds, music, writing lyrics, creative hairdressing and the ability to glide over the ice like Torvill and Dean!
And at a third we learned about “driverless cars” and then discussed our own views about the advantages and disadvantages of this new technology, which is almost upon us. With the passing of the Automated Vehicles Act in May 2024, there is a probability that driverless cars will be on our roads as soon as 2026. A great boon? Or an alarming prospect?

As well as our regular “discussion meetings” we have plans in hand for some walks and outings in the near future.

In addition to local group activities, NWR membership gives you access to a whole range of national events including online meetings, talks, exercise classes, virtual book clubs and Facebook groups. An annual highlight is the “Telephone Treasure Trail” held in November.

Note for new enquirers – we will contact you by phone, but if you have only given an email address and you think we have not replied, please check your Junk folder.
