Last night we had a very interesting meeting when we explored some philosophers and philosophical ideas.

We were introduced to 7 periods of philosophy over time – Ancient, Greek, Hellenistic, Roman, Medieval, Renaissance, Modern.

We heard about Plato, Thomas Aquinas, Francis Bacon, Simone de Beauvoir, Iris Murdoch and Baudrillard.

I’m not even going to attempt to summarise! All were very interesting and made us think.

We argued (in the true philosophical sense) over rationalism and empiricism.

Simone de Beauvoir provoked a lively discussion of women’s place, if the standard measure of what is human is male.

Our brains hurt by the end!

We took away the message to Think.

We ended on quotes from Baudrillard:-

“We live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning”.

And “All societies end up wearing masks”!!
