Rebecca

At the book group meeting we were educated in speech forms as well as being given a very interesting synopsis of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.

Our discussions included whether the theme was jealousy or resentment, if the novel was a Gothic love story and if indeed it is a classic.

One of us was not content with the narrator being nameless and had christened her Isobel.

There was some concern with the fact that the heroine did not seem bothered at all when she discovered that her husband was a murderer.  Some found it a good mystery that slowly unfolded, some that it was too predictable and others that the characters seemed one dimensional.

Generally, it received the thumbs up from the majority.
